1. How do I adjust the pass marks in the software?

Due to the DSA being able to change the pass marks for the Theory and Hazard Perception tests we have included options pages, which enable you to do the same. This is because the default settings on this CD-ROM may be higher or lower than the actual pass mark set by the DSA. Please ensure you set the pass mark to the desired rate.

To change the pass mark in the Theory program select ‘Options’ from the main menu and then click ‘Exam mode options’. You can adjust the pass mark here.

To change the pass mark in the Hazard Perception program select ‘Settings’ from the main menu and then click ‘Main settings’. You can adjust the pass mark here by clicking and dragging the slider bar

4. Nothing happens when I insert the disc

If nothing happens when you insert the disc and you've tried following the installation instructions it's likely that you only have a CD-ROM drive in your computer.

This product comes on a DVD, so you need a DVD-ROM drive in order to use it. Please check to see if you have a DVD drive in the computer. Normally it will say DVD-ROM on the front of the drive itself, if not, follow the steps below to check.

Windows XP/2000

  1. Click 'Start', then right click the My Computer icon and select 'Manage' from the menu that appears

  2. A computer management console will then appear.

  3. Click on Device Manager on the left

  4. Then look in the right hand pane of the window

  5. Click the '+' next to DVD/CD-ROM Drives

Windows 98/Me

  1. Right click on My Computer on your desktop and select 'Properties' from the menu that appears.

  2. Click the Device Manager tab at the top of the Properties window

  3. Click the '+' next to CDROM

Below that you will then see the name of your drive. If you don't see DVD mentioned anywhere in the name, you have a CD drive in your computer.

The only way you will get the disc to work is to buy a DVD drive for your computer. Your local computer shop will be able to supply you with one for around £15 - £20

If you have got a DVD drive in the computer and the disc still won’t work, please contact Technical Support

10. The software hangs on a green screen

We've found this occurs in some cases if the software doesn't install correctly due to a conflict with other software installed on your PC running in the background.

Firstly, uninstall the Driving Test software from your computer. Do that via the Add or Remove Programs section in Control Panel (or Installed Programs section if running Windows Vista)

Please make sure you also choose to delete the user records at the end of the uninstall when prompted.

Once you've uninstalled, boot your computer into Safe Mode.

To boot into Safe Mode, turn your PC off, wait 10 seconds and turn it back on again. As soon as you've turned it back on again, keep pressing the F8 key on your keyboard repeatedly. You will eventually see an Advanced Startup Menu, choose Safe Mode from that menu and press Enter. Press enter again to load Windows in safe mode.

Once in safe mode, re-install the Driving Test software in the usual way.

Once installed, restart the PC and let it boot normally this time.

Once windows has loaded, log in if you need to and run the Driving Test software by double clicking the icon on your desktop or start menu.

The software should then run as normal.
